critical literacy

What is new in critical literacy?

  1. In my subject (economics), critical literacy could be used to analyze diffferent economic schools of thought, such as the argument of Keynesian Economics vs. supply-side economics. I see where students could question the motives of the supporters of each and pehaps take a stance. I need to rely on the content literacy, however, to make sure they are prepared for their EOCT.

  2. Critical lieracy could also be used to read about the supporters of amnesty for non-documentd workers vs. tighter immigration laws or even supporters for free trade vs. protectionism.

  3. Whitney makes a good point in her first comment. That is exactly what is expected of students in the sociology class - analysis and application of the different sociological perspectives.
